The members of White River Brass recently paid their annual visit to Consett Junior School to provide inspirational workshops and tutoring to the talented pupils.

Formed in 2000 by Black Dyke trombone star Brett Baker, the ensemble made up of players from the Queensbury Band also helped with music theory lessons.

Great visit

Deputy Head Teacher, Rebecca Waters told 4BR: "It was another great visit and the day concluded with a First World War commemoration concert in the local Empire Theatre."

At the event Consett Junior Brass performed a set including music, readings and multi-media presentations and White River Brass gave a programme demonstrating their expertise.

Special commission

Rebecca added: "It was rounded off with the massed band sounds of Consett Brass, Consett Salvation Army Band and White River Brass combining to premiere 'Four Nine Four' a commission composed by Paul Sharman and partly funded by the Northern Regional Brass Band Trust.

The piece, with multi-media accompaniment is dedicated to the memory of a Consett Durham Light Infantry soldier, John Edgar, who was killed in action during the conflict."
