Formby youngster heads for the top via Georgia

James Gray, the youngest member of the Formby Band was delighted to receive the 'Young Soloist' award from Southport & District Brass Band Association following his performance at the band's recent park concert in Southport.

Fantastic rendition

Aged just 10, James, who comes from Walton, is a pupil at Northcote Primary School in Liverpool, and won his award after giving a fantastic rendition of Hoagy Carmichael's 'Georgia on Mind' on cornet during the Sunday afternoon concert at the famous Botanic Gardens.

James has been a member of Formby Band for the past 12 months, and plays 3rd cornet — although his sights are certainly focused on becoming a future principal cornet.
