The Elland Silver Band organisation has announced that Lord Shutt of Greetland will become their new President.
David Trevor Shutt — Baron Shutt of Greetland, OBE, PC, is a Liberal Democrat politician who served as Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard and is a former Deputy Chief Whip in the House of Lords.
He was appointed OBE in the 1993 New Year Honours, and was created a life peer in 2000. He also served as a Calderdale Councillor for Greetland and Stainland and in 1982-83 he and his wife Margaret served as Mayor and Mayoress of Calderdale.
Delighted
A long serving member of the Elland organisation, he stated: "Over the last 35 years, I've watched Elland grow from just six players into one of the leading community organisations in Calderdale, with over 100 members aged from 7 to 80 years of age. I'm delighted to accept the invitation."

In response, band Chairman Peter Greenleaf told 4BR: "We're delighted to announce this appointment, and see it as a great opportunity for the band to have such a highly respected member of our community as a figure head and representative."
