Three outstanding representatives of the brass band movement in the North West were recently invited by Her Majesty the Queen to attend a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.
Mark Wilkinson and John Barber from Foden's Band as well as former Smithills Schools Band conductor Chris Wormald joined 3000 others on a glorious day at Buckingham Palace
Recognition
The well known Foden's pair were nominated by their MP, Fiona Bruce for their services to Foden's Band and the support and growth of music education in Cheshire East, whilst Chris was invited in recognition of his 35 years of inspirational service in education in Bolton.
On a blisteringly hot day guests were entertained by music from the Band of the Royal Logistics Corps whilst enjoying afternoon tea, iced coffee, cakes and lemon juice and cucumber sandwiches.
The splendidly attired Yeomen of the Guard provided all the splendour and ceremony as Her Majesty was joined by Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and his wife Sophie.
Thanks
John and Mark were able to speak to Prince Edward who thanked them for their work with Foden's Band and their education work in Cheshire East, whilst Chris was able to recall meeting The Queen 30 years ago when he was Head of Brass Instrumental Teaching for Bolton Education Authority.

Honour
Speaking about the experience, John told 4BR: "We were honoured to receive the invitation. Foden's has been a significant part of both of our lives that being involved in its support, development and promotion has very much become a way of life.
It was a wonderful afternoon and a memory that will be treasured for a very long time."
Chris added: "The event brought back memories of exactly 30 years ago, and once again I was honoured to be invited and to attend."
