Four diverse works, including one brand new commission will be featured at the 2018 Dutch National Championships later this year.
Trajectum
The elite level Championship Section bands will be faced with 'Trajectum' by Rob Goorhuis.
Written specially for the event, it's inspired by the Roman history of the city of Utrecht and the crossing place over the River Rhine that marked the border of the Roman Empire under the Emperor Claudius. Over the centuries Trajectum changed its name to Trecht and later to Utrecht.
The work also pays homage to the song 'Doen Daphne d'over schoone Maeght' by Jacob van Eyck (1590-1657) from his collection 'Der Fluyten Lust-hof'. Van Eyck was a gifted flute and carillon player in the city and also devoted himself to improving the city's clocks alongside the famous Hemony brothers.
Throughout the work, the material of 'Daphne' can be found altering as well intertwining with the motif elements of Trajectum. The work climaxes with a six-tone motif in honour of the Hemony brothers.

High Peak and more
The First Division bands will be faced by Eric Ball's allegorical rhapsody 'High Peak', whilst Philip Sparke's 'Sinfonietta: The Town beneath the Cliff' written for the Holmestrand Ungdomskorps Band and used by them at the 2018 Norwegian National Championships will test the bands in the Second Section.
Thierry Deleruyelle's exciting three part suite 'Viking Age' will test the bands in the Third Section, whilst Gustav Holst's bucolic 'Second Suite in F' is the set test in the Fourth Section.
