Great response to prison break with Royal Marines

Plenty of people have been signing up for a low brass open day at the old Naval Detention Quarters in Portsmouth led by the likes of David Childs and Les Neish — and you can still enjoy a spell inside too.

Marines
The Marines Low Brass Day has already had a great response

There has already been a great response to the forthcoming Royal Marines Low Brass Open Day to be held at the Royal Marines School of Music in Portsmouth on 5th May — and there is still time to sign up for it yourselves.

Stars such as David Childs and Les Neish will lead a full day of musical attractions at the old Naval Detention Quarters in Portsmouth, offering a fantastic opportunity for players of all standards to come along and enjoy themselves.

Great response

Talking to 4BR, Trombone Instructor Sgt Nick West said: "We've had a great response already and we hope more people will come along to enjoy a pretty unique experience.

Where else can you get to play alongside the likes of Les Neish, David Childs, Robbie Harvey, Simon Minshall and Andy Cresci — and spend time in some old prison cells too!

Since 1996 the old Naval Detention Quarters has been the busy home of the Royal Marines School of Music (RMSoM), with the old prison cells providing individual practice rooms for trainee musicians.

Nick confirmed that there will be a number of performances from trombonists Robbie Harvey and Simon Minshall, euphonium virtuoso David Childs and tuba stars Les Neish and Andy Cresci.

One or two surprises

Nick added: "We promise a fantastic day in a truly unique setting led by world class performers.

It is open to players of all standards as well as any non-playing spectators, so please reserve yourself a space, bring your instrument along and join us for a day of superb low brass music making. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you there on 5th May."
