Eastern promise with new top man at Blidworth

John McMurran becomes the new principal cornet at Blidworth Welfare after enjoying a career move back from the Far East.

Blidworth Welfare Band has announced the appointment of John McMurran as their new principal cornet.

John's first experience of brass playing was in the Boy's Brigade in Belfast, before becoming principal cornet with 55th Old Boys' Band and Templemore Band before moving abroad with his work.

Founder member

After a break from banding he was a founder member of the Singapore Brass Society Band and then of Lion City Brass Band where he served as principal cornet until returning to the UK in early 2018.

While in Singapore, John also performed with Desford Colliery during their 2011 Asian Tour.
