BBE supporting New Orleans parade

Brass Bands England is supporting the New Orleans music making in the nation's capital in June — and bands can play their part too.

New Orleans
How do you fancy bringing a flavour of New Orleans to London in June?

Brass Bands England is supporting the organisers of a New Orleans Parade which will take place in the heart of London as a high profile part of a series of the musical attractions of the nationwide Make Music Day on 21st June.

BEE is also hoping that a number of brass bands in the London & Southern Counties region will sign up to be part of the event, which will attract widespread media attention as it weaves its way in a New Orleans carnival-style parade in the London Bridge area of the capital.

2018 is the 300th anniversary of the city of New Orleans and the parade will include musicians from the city's famous ensembles such as 'All for One Brass', the 'Original Big 7 Social Aid and Pleasure Club' and 'People United for Armstrong Park' as well as young performers from London's 'Kinetika Bloco'.

Make Music Day is an annual set of free music events taking place in venues and public spaces — from town squares to libraries, bandstands to school halls and arts centres. It's based on France's 'Fête de la Musique' and takes place on the longest day of the year in 120 countries around the world.

Get in touch

BBE Development & Education Co-ordinator Sophie Anderson told 4BR: "We are delighted to offer our support for this fantastic event and we hope that some brass bands will get in touch with the organisers to play their part too."

4BR understands that bands will need to be available from 5.00pm until 8.00pm (although this may be extended) in the London Bridge area. They should also be willing to learn some new tunes from memory if possible as they march along — including the Make Music Day signature tune, 'Bring Me Sunshine'.
