Grimethorpe spearhead BiC charity support

The most successful band in Brass in Concert history will lead the event's support of a leading Children's Cancer Charity.

Grimethorpe
The great entertainers will be raising the roof at Durham Cathedral

The Brass in Concert organisers and Grimethorpe Colliery Band are helping to support the North of England Children's Cancer Research Fund (NECCR), with a special concert at Durham Cathedral on Saturday 14th April (7.30pm).

The event forms an extension to the usual Brass in Concert attractions that will once again be enjoyed over the weekend of the 17th/18th November, with this special concert also supported by one of BiCs sponsors, The Banks Group.

Iconic venue

Brass in Concert Chairman, John Woods told 4BR: "We are delighted to be presenting Grimethorpe at such an iconic venue, and are grateful to the Dean and Chapter of the Cathedral, as well as to our sponsors the Banks Group for their support.

We hope that this inaugural concert will be a tremendous success and will help lead to our vision of promoting concerts of this calibre at iconic venues throughout the UK."

World leaders

Based at the Sir James Spence Institute for Child Health at the RVI in Newcastle, the NECCR has raised more than £30m since being set up in 1979. It has helped fund research that has established the North East as one of the world leaders in the research of childhood cancer.

Chris Peacock, chairman of the NECCR, added: "We really appreciate the support of Brass in Concert, Grimethorpe Colliery Band and the Banks Group in raising vital funds for us. Every penny is integral in helping to improve the lives of children and young people."

We hope that this inaugural concert will be a tremendous success and will help lead to our vision of promoting concerts of this calibre at iconic venues throughout the UKBrass in Concert Chairman, John Woods

Terrific opportunity

Mark Dowdall, Environment & Community Director at The Banks Group added: "This is a terrific opportunity for local people to hear music of the highest quality played live in a unique venue, and to raise much-needed funds for a fantastic local charity at the same time."
