Kapitol Promotions, the presenters of the National Championships of Great Britain, is to stage a concert in Gloucester Cathedral on Saturday 19th May.
It will be the first of the company's 'Cathedral Series' of concerts featuring Butlins and West of England Regional Champion, Flowers under MD David Childs, and the renowned ReChoir, directed by Nathan Jones.
Evocative environment
Presented by compere David Hayward, the combination offers the opportunity to hear two outstanding ensembles performing in a truly evocative environment.
Fowlers achievements are well known, whilst ReChoir is a contemporary chamber group offering a unique take on modern choral music, which has performed extensively all over the UK, including for the 2013 UK tour of Godspell.
Repertoire
The repertoire to be performed is aimed at a family audience under headings such as 'Slavonic Brass', which features colourful Russian and Czech music; 'Celebrating Icons', paying homage to the centenary of the birth of Wilfred Heaton, 50 years since the death of Martin Luther King, and a touching celebration of one of Gloucester's most important musical figures, Derek Bourgeois.
All this and there is 'The Music of Sir Karl Jenkins' — Europe's most popular living composer, and 'Best of British', which will pay homage to Holst and Elgar, born close to Gloucester in Cheltenham and Worcester respectively.
It's all going to be rounded off with Holst's 'Jupiter' from 'The Planets'; and Elgar's 'Nimrod' from 'Enigma Variations'.
