The Royal Marines School of Music is to hold a major Low Brass Day on Saturday 5th May, featuring some of the UK's finest performers.
The event at the old Naval Detention Quarters in Portsmouth will be open to the public, with a fantastic opportunity for players of all standards to come along and enjoy a full day of activities.
Busy home
Talking to 4BR about the event, Trombone Instructor Sgt Nick West said: "Since 1996 the old Naval Detention Quarters has been the busy home of the Royal Marines School of Music (RMSoM), with the old prison cells making ideal individual practice rooms for trainee musicians!
It is not a facility many people get the opportunity to see, but on Saturday 5th May we will be throwing the gates open for what will be a quite stunning Low Brass Day."
Nick confirmed that there will be a number of performances from a stellar line up of guest artists including, trombonists Robbie Harvey and Simon Minshall, euphonium virtuoso David Childs and tuba star Les Neish.
Also in attendance will be Andy Cresci, principal tuba of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Professor of Euphonium and Tuba at RMSoM.

One or two surprises
Nick added: "Throughout the day there will also be the opportunity to take part in massed blows where there may be one or two surprises in store — although I can confirm it won't involve marching!
We promise a fantastic day in a truly unique setting led by world class performers. It is open to players of all standards as well as any non-playing spectators, so please reserve yourself a space, bring your instrument along and join us for a day of superb low brass music making. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you there on 5th May."
