  The Festival provides a fantastic opportunity to link up with the hat-trick champions Black Dyke

There is still time to register for one of Black Dyke's most popular events of the year, as the hat-trick winning Queensbury band hosts its Black Dyke Festival.

Led by Director of Music Prof Nicholas Childs, it provides a hub of musical activity and excellence which culminates in a fantastic afternoon concert at the magnificent Leeds Town Hall on Sunday 3rd June (3.00pm).

Opportunities

Not only will people have the opportunity to work alongside many of the band's star soloists in masterclasses throughout the day, but players from the Yorkshire Youth, Armthorpe Elmfield, Buckley, Delph, BD1 and Friezland Bands will also enjoy the chance of joining the triple Yorkshire Regional champion on stage for a wonderful Gala Concert.

Conductors Workshop:

An added bonus this year will be will be a special 'Conductors Workshop' led by Director Music, Prof Nicholas Childs.

Delegates will have the opportunity to work on all aspects of conducting technique on works that will encompass different levels of ability — from James Curnow's 'Trittico for Brass Band', to the trickery of Derek Bourgeois' 'Serenade'.

Workshops: Cornet, Middle Band & Lower Brass Spotlights

These workshops are open to players of all ages and standards, with parts rehearsed for the massed bands items with Black Dyke.

Cornet Spotlight:

Richard Marshall

All aspects are covered in the workshops include warm-ups, general technique and sight-reading session.

Middle Band Spotlight:

Katrina Marzella, Zoe Hancock and Siobhan Bates

This brand new spotlight will bring together flugel, tenor horn and baritone players to focus on the role of the all important middle band, as well as general skills including developing sound, strengthening technique and ensemble playing.

Lower Brass Spotlight:

Dan Thomas, Harry Cunningham and Les Neish

Tuba and euphonium players will cover warm ups, practice techniques, ensemble playing and solo performing.

Rushden Town Band

November 25 • Trombone Player. This friendly band is looking for a tenor trombone player to join its ranks. The band enjoys playing at regular concerts each year and is off to the Rhineland next year on its second tour.


Chinnor Silver

November 25 • You need to be quick, we are almost full but just require Eb bass and percussion. We are a friendly, welcoming and ambitious band and start 2025 at the top of our second section ranking table. We rehearse on a Wed evening in our own bandroom in Chinnor.


Hathersage Band

November 25 • Hathersage Brass Band is a thriving community band. We enjoy making music and have a good gig schedule. An opportunity has arisen for the right person to join our Principal Cornet Ed as co-principal. Are you up for the challenge? This is our only vacancy.
