Family thanks for Giblin send off

The family of the late Dave Giblin has expressed their thanks for the way in which the brass band community gave a fond farewell to the former Desford cornet star.

The brass band community came together to pay tribute to Dave Giblin

The family of the late Desford cornet player David Giblin have expressed their heartfelt thanks to those who travelled from around the country to attend his funeral earlier last month.

Moving

David's brother Terry told 4BR: "On behalf of all the Giblin family we wish to thank everyone who helped to provide such a moving and memorable funeral for David.

Fine tributes from Garry Sleath, Ray Stuttard and John Gillam reminded us of the full and enjoyable life David lived and his very talented contribution to the music world through his cornet playing and teaching of so many younger players.

We thank all the band personnel for their playing and to Garry for arranging the band and music so well for the occasion.

Because of the bad weather we had many calls from David's former friends and fellow musicians who were snowed in, and could not attend. Despite the weather we were all touched by the efforts made by so many to be at the service.

The generous charitable contributions have also been passed on to Cancer research. He will be deeply missed by us all."

On behalf of all the Giblin family we wish to thank everyone who helped to provide such a moving and memorable funeral for DavidTerry Giblin

Desford quartet

A full band of David's former colleagues performed at the service, whilst a quartet of former Desford Colliery players performed 'Nocturne' from 'Capriccio' by Roger Payne.

The first run through of the piece had taken place in the Giblin family home in 1974 with Roger Payne conducting. The congregation left the Chapel to the rousing sounds of the march, 'The Champions'.
