The UniBrass 2018 Championships have announced the team of adjudicators who will make the all important decisions in the Trophy and Shield events of this year's contest to be held at York Barbican on 17th February.
Judges
Sandy Smith, conductor of Tubular Brass and Resident MD of Grimethorpe Colliery, will be oversee the UniBrass Trophy alongside talented flugel player Alex Kenyon. This section will see ten competitors, led by defending champion RNCM from Manchester.
Eleven bands will compete in the UniBrass Shield. Established in 2017, it is aimed at the less-established student bands and in its first year saw an extremely close-run battle for the honours, with Durham University eventually coming out on top.
The adjudicators will be Whitburn principal cornet Chris Bradley and Grimethorpe tenor horn star Helen Varley.
Gala concert
All four adjudicators will perform with Tubular Brass in the Gala Concert that follows the main contest.
UniBrass 2018 is on the 17th February at the York Barbican.
