Coldstream link helps student's major project

An ambitious student concert featuring Her Majesty's Coldstream Guards Band will take place in Birmingham this evening — all in support of a great cause.

A talented young music student will be leading an ambitious concert this evening in Birmingham as the part of his final year degree course 'major project'.

Richard Ward from Abergavenny will conduct the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Wind Orchestra in an event entitled, 'Lest We Forget' alongside Her Majesty's Coldstream Guards Band led by Major Simon Haw.

Free concert

The free concert also sees the inclusion of Royal Shakespeare Company associate actor Katy Stephen as a narrator, with a charity collection at the end of the night for the Royal British Legion.

Richard told 4BR: "I wanted to be able to put on a concert that resonated with something very important to people, so the idea of the music being linked to the 100th anniversary of the last year of the First World War seemed appropriate.

I am very grateful to be able to share the stage with the world class musicians of Her Majesty's Coldstream Guards for what I hope will be a great event and will help a very worthy and important cause."
