Grimethorpe Colliery Band has announced the appointment of Sandy Smith as their new Resident Musical Director.

The highly experienced musician has enjoyed a wide and highly respected career as a player, conductor and arranger and has been resident conductor at both Grimethorpe and Brighouse & Rastrick in the past.

Exciting

On his return he said: "It's exciting to be back at Grimethorpe and to have the opportunity to further enhance and develop their reputation as a band both on the concert platform and in the contest arena.

They have a number of well-established top players and a new raft of younger talent eager to make music in the unique way that Grimethorpe do."

I'm keen to work together to move the band forward, using the skills and personalities of its players and also to preparing the band for Allan Withington's visit for the Yorkshire Regional ChampionshipSandy Smith

Keen

He added: "I'm keen to work together to move the band forward, using the skills and personalities of its players and also to preparing the band for Allan Withington's visit for the Yorkshire Regional Championship."
