Elderberries able to afford pick of the bunch

A generous Christmas charity award enables a brass group for those of a certain age to enjoy their brass playing in 2018 and beyond...

The Elderberries Brass Group enjoyed extra Christmas presents thanks to a charitable donation

The Elderberries Brass Group, based in Scholes near Leeds recently enjoyed a wonderful Christmas surprise with the award of £1,000 from the West Riding Masonic Charities to help purchase much needed instruments.

Community

The group was started in 2016 and provides the opportunity for what they call 'older' people in the community to learn and play brass instruments. They now have 14 members and have been in need of instruments for some time.

After numerous unsuccessful attempts to obtain funds from various community grants and 'Music for All' applications, the group was delighted to receive the substantial award from the West Riding Masonic Charities to purchase instruments and stands.

This was such a boost for the players, and it was great to be able to hand out a baritone, euphonium and flugel horn at our first rehearsal back after ChristmasMD, John Edward

Boost

MD John Edward told 4BR: "This was such a boost for the players, and it was great to be able to hand out a baritone, euphonium and flugel horn at our first rehearsal back after Christmas."
