Listen to the Band: 14th November

Grimethorpe Colliery Band's centenary celebrations include this concert at Elsecar Heritage Centre. Frank Renton presents the second of two highlights programmes which feature the music that has made the band famous on the concert and contest stage, the recording studio and on film.

Listen to the Band: 21st November

The award winning film 'Brassed Off' has given Grimethorpe Colliery Band a unique calling card in the music world and is possibly their greatest success to date.

In 2011 LTTB celebrated the film's 15th anniversary in a special programme that featured contributions from members and the film's writer/director Mark Herman, plus music from the soundtrack.

Mark recalls standing in the middle of the band with Peter Postlethwaite, and being almost overcome with the beauty of the sound. We also hear how Tara Fitzgerald took to playing the flugel, and of course we hear the music that, in the film at least, won them the National Championship title.
