The Heritage Lottery Fund is supporting Royston Town Band's 'Brass Roots' project.

Royston Town Band has received a grant of £10,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for their exciting history project, 'Brass Roots'.

Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the project will help local people explore Royston's long and colourful history.

Over 150 years

It is one that spans over 150 years and which now incorporates a wealth of heritage items, a large library of over 1500 sets music, historic photos dating back to the 19th century, old uniforms, a variety of audio recordings, scrapbooks of press cuttings and a number of old record books.

In addition, the band will record an oral history gathered from the people whose families run back through its history to give a unique perspective of its link to the local community.

Get going

Commenting on the award, Band Chairperson, Charmian Flowerday, told 4BR: "We can't wait to get going. People in Royston have always loved music and there are so many interesting stories and personalities to uncover."
