It has been announced that euphonium virtuoso Steven Mead will be the new Course Director of the 2018 Bolsover International Brass Band Summer School.
Following the growing success of the course over the past few years the organisers told 4BR that they felt Steve was the ideal person to expand its musical scope and reach out further to the worldwide banding community.
Worldwide potential
Course Administrator Carole Crompton told 4BR: "The solid foundations of the course are now well established, and we now want to fulfil its worldwide potential.
Steve has such a well respected profile as a performer and teacher and vast experience of leading innovative, ground breaking courses and projects all over the musical globe. We are delighted that he has accepted the role.
The 2018 course will offer delegates the opportunity to work with an outstanding team of tutors, perform challenging music, but still have plenty of time to enjoy themselves."
Success
In response Steve told 4BR: "I've worked with Carole over many years and have huge respect for the success achieved with the numerous projects she has been involved with — including the Bolsover Summer School.
The opportunity to develop it into a truly international course was one of the major reasons I wanted to come on board — and to be able to further enhance the opportunities and new ideas that it will offer players from all over the world.
The hard work has already started in planning for 2018, so I would urge any player who wishes to experience a unique musical opportunity to get in touch as soon as possible."
