Extra security measures in place for British Open

Both bands and audience will need to make sure they adhere to the security requirements at Symphony Hall for the British Open this year.

Symphony Hall
Bands and audience are being reminded that extra security will be in place at this year's British Open

The competing bands, as well as prospective audience, are being given an early reminder that there will be added security at this year's British Open Championship at Symphony Hall, Birmingham on Saturday 9th September.

Extra security measures are being put in place for the 165th contest, with competing bands already notified of the arrangements they must adhere to on the day.

Added time

Meanwhile, the following message was issued by Symphony Hall to people who have purchased a ticket for the event.

"Everyone has been appalled at the terrible events which took place at the Manchester Arena recently and our thoughts are with all of those affected.

As a result, security presence and extensive checks will be in place for all forthcoming Town Hall and Symphony Hall concerts. Allow significant extra time to access our venues since these checks may slow down the entry of customers into our foyers.

Please only bring small bags with you, since larger bags and holdalls will need to be stored separately.

Also note that we will not be able to offer or accommodate any vehicular access to the front of the hall until further notice."
