Cornish Youth look forward to new season with world class leads

The talented youngsters of the Cornish Youth Band will be working with world class talent over the next 12 months — starting with a double helping of Cobb excellence.

Philip Cobb
Philip Cobb will be the first guest soloist of the forthcoming year with the Cornwall Youth Band.

The Cornwall Youth Band will soon be undertaking its 2017/18 season and is looking for a raft of new talented young musicians to join their ranks.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "With up to eight monthly rehearsals and two 4 day residential courses from September until April each year there is plenty of opportunity to make new friends and enjoy the benefits of working with highly respected tutors, guest conductors and soloists."

Cobb and Williams

This year's Christmas Course will be led by Dr Stephen Cobb, Bandmaster of the International Staff Band of the Salvation Army, along with his son Philip, Principal Trumpet of the London Symphony Orchestra, who will be the guest soloist.

Easter 2018 sees Cory Band's solo euphonium Glyn Williams take the baton joined by his wife Helen as the guest soloist.

The chance to work closely with some of most talented musicians from the brass band world can only improve the all round musicianship of the players and their own bandsspokesperson

Work closely

The spokesperson added: "The chance to work closely with some of most talented musicians from the brass band world can only improve the all round musicianship of the players and their own bands."
