Grimethorpe Colliery
David Horn has become the new Band Manager at Grimethorpe Colliery Band

Grimethorpe Colliery Band has announced the appointment of David Horn as their new Band Manager.

The former tenor horn player and conductor has over 50 years of banding experience allied to a highly successful professional career in business in worldwide engineering sales and management.

Playing experience

He was solo horn with the band in 1974 when under Elgar Howarth and alongside Black Dyke they performed at the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.

He has also held prominent playing roles with a number of top bands and whilst at Fairey Engineering he was part of their National and British Open winning performances.

If I can use my playing experience and business skills to the good of the band then I will be very happy. They are building so well with exceptional young talent, that when asked to do the job I just had to acceptDavid Horn

Come home

Talking about his appointment he stated: "It's taken a long time for me to arrive back in an active role with Grimethorpe, but it really does feel like I've come home.

If I can use my playing experience and business skills to the good of the band then I will be very happy. They are building so well with exceptional young talent, that when asked to do the job I just had to accept."
