Elland Silver Band has announced the appointment of Ben Jarvis as their new principal cornet.
The talented 17 year old has already made a big impression with the Yorkshire top flight band at the recent Whit Friday contests and in helping at summer engagements.
He joins after playing repiano cornet with Leyland for the past two years and having risen through the ranks at Eccleston and Hebden Bridge. He is also a member of the National Youth Band of Great Britain. He currently tutors at the award winning Red Admiral Music Academy and KTB Music.
Great opportunity
Musical Director, Danny Brooks told 4BR: "We are delighted to appoint Ben and we believe it's a great opportunity for him to develop his solo and leadership skills and gain additional contest exposure.
I've had the pleasure of tutoring him since he started his playing career, and I'm thrilled he accepted the role. We had no hesitation in offering Ben the position as we believe he's going to be a great asset to the band."

New challenges
In reply Ben added: "I'm really enjoying being part of the Elland Band and looking forward to the new challenges. Everyone has made me feel really welcome and Danny and Sam Harrison are fabulous mentors.
My first Whit Friday as top man was a great experience, and a brilliant test of stamina! Now comes the autumn season, and I can't wait to lead the band at the Dr Martin Contest in September."
