Some of New Zealand's finest musicians will be sharing their experience with players of all ages in a series of workshops hosted by North Shore Brass.
Based in Takapuna, a lovely suburb of Auckland, the event takes place on Saturday July 29th, at Birkenhead College, where the likes of euphonium star Byron 'Buzz' Newton will join internationally renowned trombone champion David Chaulk to inspire the musicians.
Champion performance
North Shore MD, Colin Clarke told 4BR: "Our clinicians are professional brass players who want to give musicians of all ages on any brass instrument a chance to learn how to put on a champion performance,"
As well as musical performance, the workshops will focus on skills such as breathing techniques, music choice and preparation and stage craft.
"These elements can make or break a live performance. Hearing the top players sharing their skills is the best way people can make the most of this great opportunity," Colin added.
Concert closer
The workshops will be held at the Birkenhead College Theatre on Saturday 29th July where both David and Byron will be available for individual lessons.
It will be followed by a concert at the College on Sunday 30th July by North Shore Brass featuring Byron and fellow guest soloists, cornet player Chris Lawrence, percussion superstar Leni Selusi and Auckland cornet virtuoso Andrew Large.
As well as musical performance, the workshops will focus on skills such as breathing techniques, music choice and preparation and stage craft4BR
Champion soloist
North Shore Brass will also feature a champion soloist of its own — former Academy principal cornet player Isabella Thomas, who this year became New Zealand National Junior Champion on the flugel.
