Internationally renowned trombonists are already sliding into Glasgow for a four day festival this weekend to celebrate the music and performers of the iconic brass instrument.

The Glasgow Trombone Weekend, started yesterday (22nd June) and runs to Sunday 25th June featuring performances from the likes of superstars Christian Lindberg, Simon Johnson and Jorgen van Rijen with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, while the awesome Mnozil Brass will also delight audiences.

Glittering line-up

Meanwhile, a glittering line-up at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland includes Matthew Gee (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), Gordon Campbell (John Wilson Orchestra and BBC Big Band), Christian Jones (Opera North) and Katy Jones (The Hallé) who perform during a packed series of recitals on Sunday, June 25th.

Organised by the British Trombone Society, Sunday will include a performance from Scottish traditional music / brass crossover Braw Brass, while there will also be opportunities for attendees to take part in massed ensemble sessions.

All corners

Dávur Juul Magnussen, Vice-President of the British Trombone Society, told 4BR: "The sound of the trombone will ring out from all corners of Glasgow as leading performers delight audiences in the city.

The Glasgow Trombone Weekend brings a star-studded line-up to the city and with terrific concerts on the cards at City Halls and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, I would encourage fans of all brass music to pop along and soak up a fantastic few days of music making. Remember your trombone!"
