The Ann Maguire Arts Education Fund, specially created through donations in memory of Ann Maguire, a school teacher from Leeds who was tragically murdered at her place of work in 2014, has awarded a £1000 grant to Lofthouse Brass Band.
The award will enable the band to run a repeat of its successful 'Brassed On' programme that allows local schoolchildren who would not normally have the opportunity, to participate and perform brass music.
Education programme
Working alongside talented musician James Stretton, the organisation's education programme brings brass music into approximately 10 local schools over a five day period, engaging students through a series of interactive and educational workshops.
The students learn about various instruments with the opportunity to perform, culminating in a Saturday morning performance alongside Lofthouse Brass Band.
Encourage people
MD Andrew Whitaker, told 4BR: "We're delighted to receive the funding as it supports our mission to encourage people to explore brass music and experience our work.
The wonderful thing about this grant is that it allows us to run a series of workshops in schools which will provide young people with the opportunity to experience brass music making first hand."
