The talented youngsters from Ysgol Bontnewydd Band have claimed victory at the Urdd National Eisteddfod for a fifth year in a row.

  The talented youngsters have just notched up their fifth consecutive victory at the national youth event

Ysgol Bontnewydd Band recently became Urdd National Eisteddfod Champion for the fifth time in a row.

Conducted by their teacher Dylan Williams, the youngsters gave a brace of cracking performances of 'The Eye of the Tiger' and 'The Final Countdown' in the main pavilion in Bridgend to impress the judges and beat off the challenge of 11 rivals in the Junior Category event.

The competition was broadcast live on the national S4C television channel.

Double triumph

Meanwhile, on Friday evening Dylan led Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen Secondary School brass band to first place in the Senior Category playing arrangements of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'Blame it on the Boogie' to secure a great 'double' for Bontnewydd schools, which are based near Caernarfon.

Dylan's other secondary school band, Ysgol Brynrefail came second out of the eight competitors in the section.
