Foden's Band will once again host one of the UK's most important Solo, Duet & Quartet Competitions later this year.
Their 7th Open Solo, Duet & Quartet Competition will be held on Sunday 29th October, and is set to attract competitors from all around the banding globe thanks to its generous prize packages, awards and excellent organisation.
New date
2017 sees the event, supporting by Besson Musical Instruments, move to a Sunday to prevent a clash with the Wychavon Contest.
Foden's Fiona Rolfe told 4BR: "Thanks to the support of Besson and our other sponsors the event continues to grow in numbers and importance.
For instance, the Blue Riband 'Open Class' continues to attract players of the highest calibre, keen to claim the prestigious title, whilst we continue to support classes for all ages and abilities.
This is a event that celebrates excellence and inclusion as we guarantee the opportunity to showcase talent in the most positive way possible. The encouragement of the very youngest players is hugely important to Foden's Band."
Blue Riband prize
Last year's Open Solo Champion was Lode Violet, principal cornet of Brassband Willebroek from Belgium. Part of his prize was to have a solo commissioned for him by Bramwell Tovey — with the premiere given with Foden's Band at the prestigious RNCM Brass Band Festival in Manchester earlier this year.
Fiona added: "That was a simply wonderful prize — and we promise not to disappoint with this year's Blue Riband award either!"
Foden's have announced that their esteemed Vice-President Prof John Wallace CBE is to be one of the adjudicators this year with the list of other adjudicators announced shortly.
