New top man at Rothwell Temperance

Jon Hammond take over the principal cornet role at one of Yorkshire's top bands.

  Rothwell Temperance has been one of Yorkshire elite level bands for many years

Rothwell Temperance has announced the appointment of Jon Hammond as its new principal cornet.

A former principal cornet and Drum Major of the King's Division Band based in Preston, Jon will move from the soprano chair to will lead the band by replacing his brother Tim, who has taken the decision to re-join Black Dyke on solo cornet.

Leadership

Musical Director Dave Roberts told 4BR: "We wish Tim all the best and thank him for his great work with us at Rothwell, but I'm delighted to appoint Jon and I'm certain his musicality, leadership skills and persona will help lead us through an exciting time in our ongoing contest and concert development."

Bass trom return

In a further announcement Dave revealed that long serving former member Glyn Thompson will return on bass trombone. Dave added: "Glyn is a fantastic player and a real part of the Rothwell family."

Tintwistle Band

January 1 • We have a vacancy for an Eb bass player to complete our bass section.. We are looking forward to competing in the 2nd section Midlands area contest in March 2026.. We rehearse Monday&Thursday 8-10pm in our own bandroom under the baton of our MD Jim Henson.

December 30 • We are a friendly & sociable Second Section Band with an eye on the 2026 Areas. We have vacancies for a FRONT ROW CORNET player and PERCUSSIONISTS.. Our MD is Will Douglas and we rehearse in Welwyn Garden City on Sunday evenings from 7.00-9.00pm.
