Anna Hughes-Williams has spoken to 4BR about her delight at finding out that she has been nominated to receive the 2017 'Mortimer Medal'.
The announcement was recently made by Philip Morris, Chairman of the Brass Band Committee of the Worshipful Company of Musicians, who stated that the award was due to her, 'outstanding contribution and immensely valuable work with young brass musicians'.
Extremely proud
Anna said: 'I'm extremely proud to be presented with this prestigious award and especially as it comes from having the pleasure to work with all these dedicated and talented young people.
It's been a privilege to work with Bolton Junior and Youth Band, St Helen's Youth Band and at Foden's Junior Brass Band and the Boltones, along with individual musicians."
Inspiration and guidance
The Foden's Band cornet player added: 'The inspiration and guidance that I received from Leaun Morgan MBE, Brian Buckley, Richard Evans and Lynda Nicholson when I started my conducting was invaluable.
I've been so fortunate to have had the opportunity to nurture and introduce these young musicians and to show them how much fun and enjoyment can be had with music in your life.
As everyone knows 2017 so far has been a difficult time with me losing the love of my life Eilir, but with the help and support from all my friends and especially Fodens' Band, it shows how powerful and important having music in your life can be."

Well deserved
Anna's association with Foden's stretches back over three tenures to 1989, with Band Manager Mark Wilkinson adding: "We are sure that everyone in the banding world welcomes this well deserved award.
All at Foden's send their congratulations to Anna who will be presented with it at the British Open Championship later this year."
