Black Dyke principal cornet Richard Marshall is inviting players to be part of his 'Cornet Spotlight' at the forthcoming Black Dyke Festival at Leeds Town Hall on Sunday 4th June.

It will be the ninth time that Richard has led the event, which last year attracted over 60 players from all over the country — and all for just £5.

Early start

Registration starts at 9.00am (so please be a few minutes early if you can!), with the next few hours packed with fun, tips, tuition and great playing. The 'Spotlight' concludes at midday.

PLC and Duffy

Richard told 4BR: "This is one of the real highlights of the year for me, as I get to meet up with old and new friends and cornet players of all standards to enjoy ourselves.

This year we have a new piece by Paul Lovatt-Cooper to work on entitled, 'Streamline Peaks' — which is full of rhythmic vitality and great melodies, whilst as a special guest to come along and work with everyone will be Paul Duffy, the former soprano cornet with Black Dyke, who has become one of the most sought multi-instrumentalist performers in the banding world."

Family day

He added: "Getting players together, sharing ideas and enjoying playing music together is fantastic, and with a host of other workshops for other instrumentalists and a gala concert by Black Dyke in the afternoon it is a great day for all the family.

Just get in touch and come along and enjoy yourselves."
