4BR has been informed of the death of Alex English, a former solo trombone player with Foden's Band. He joined the band in 1952 from rivals Fairey where he had previously played euphonium. It is believed that he was in his late 80s.

National Quartet Champion

Alex English held the role of solo trombone at Foden's for 25 years and worked for the company as senior metallurgist and was a member of the famous Foden's Quartet alongside Bill Kitson, Geoff Poole and Joe Moores that won the National Quartet Championship of Great Britain in 1953.

Titles

He was also a member of the band that won the National Championship in 1953 and 1958, the British Open Championship in 1964 and the North West Regional Championships in 1953 and 1956.
