4BR has been informed of the death of the promising young percussionist Matthew Densfield.
He was aged 20, and passed away on Tuesday 28th March surrounded by his family and close friends, following complications caused during major heart surgery to correct a lifelong condition.
National finals
Matthew was first introduced to brass banding in 2010 at the age of 13, when he was invited to join Haslingden & Helmshore Band. During his time he enjoyed many successes, including a podium finish at the National Finals in Cheltenham in 2012.
In early 2016 he joined Wingates, before moving on to Leeds College of Music to study for a degree in Jazz Music.
Matthew was a vibrant and inspirational instrumentalist who loved all types of music, and will be terribly missed by all who knew himFamily friend.

A family friend told 4BR: "Matthew loved performing and always jumped at the opportunity to help out different bands, such as Leyland, Blackburn & Darwen and many others.
He was a popular member of a number of other ensembles, including fulfilling his passion for jazz with the Lancashire Youth Jazz Orchestra."
They added: "Matthew was a vibrant and inspirational instrumentalist who loved all types of music, and will be terribly missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his parents, David and Susan, his sister Holly, extended family and his many friends."
