Foden's Band will link up with the famous Wallace Collection in April for a concert at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
Rare performances
The event on Saturday 29th April will see the newly crowned North West Regional Champion join forces with the renowned ensemble in a rare performance of Derek Bourgeois' 'Concerto for Brass Quintet and Brass Band'.
Originally written in 1972 for brass quintet, it was first performed by the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble. However, it demands were such that the composer later recast it with brass band. In 1999 John Wallace asked the composer to revisit it again when it was transcribed to include a full orchestra.
The Wallace Collection will also perform the critically acclaimed 'Street Song for Symphonic Brass', by the renowned American conductor, pianist and composer Michael Tilson Thomas.
Dedicated to his father, the work was originally written in 1988 for the Empire Brass Quintet but was subsequently rescored for the brass section of the London Symphony Orchestra.
Esteemed group
Speaking about the concert, principal cornet Mark Wilkinson commented: "We are looking forward to promoting and sharing the stage with such an esteemed group of musicians.
Foden's are a partner of the RNCM and John Wallace is one of the band's Vice-Presidents, so this three-way musical partnership is one that explores musical creativity together. It's a wonderful opportunity for people to come and hear rarely heard, outstanding repertoire."
