The European Brass Band Association (EBBA) has announced the list of own-choice works to be performed by competing bands at this year's Championships in Ostend. The list of adjudicators for the various competitions has also been released.
World premieres
In addition to the set test-pieces, 'Where Angels Fly' by Belgian composer Kevin Houben for the Championship Section and 'Insomnia' by Bart Picqueur for the Challenge Section, the own-choice works that will be played by the twelve top-flight competitors will once again include a number of world premieres.
British composer Simon Dobson will be featured no less than four times, including a new work intriguingly entitled, 'HorrowShow', with first performances also to be heard of new works by Gavin Higgins ('Prophecies'), Nigel Clarke ('Dial 'H' for Hitchcock), Bert Appermont ('A Brussels Requiem'), Paul Raphael ('Destination Moon') and Thomas Doss ('Visitations from Beyond').
Thierry Deleruyelle's 'Fraternity', which was the set-work in 2016 will be heard at the contest again, as will 'The Triumph of Time' by Peter Graham, whilst 'The Turing Test' and 'Journey of the Lone Wolf' by Simon Dobson and Svein Henrik Giske's 'Goldberg 2012' have already been used at major championships across Europe.
Composers featured in the Challenge Section include Philip Sparke, Peter Graham, Thomas Doss, Paul Lovatt-Cooper, Bertrand Moren and Phil Lawrence.
