The popular Bolsover Summer School will once again be headed by a star studded line-up of tutors.
Leaders David Thornton and Brett Baker have also revealed that a number of new innovations will also take place for the fifth annual course, which takes place between Sunday 23rd July and Friday 28th July, to further enhance the musical experience for delegates.
Joining the team
Joining the experienced team of tutors which also includes Mark Wilkinson, Paul Bennett and Steve Jones will be Cory tuba star Simon Howells, who will focus his expertise on the all important tuba teams.
The graduate from the RWCMD in Cardiff and Royal Academy of Music has enjoyed a highly successful professional career, working alongside the likes Bryn Terfel, Elton John, Katherine Jenkins, Hayley Westenra, Rick Wakeman, Sir Roger Moore and Dame Felicity Lott.
Simon told 4BR: "I'm really looking forward to the Bolsover Summer School and working with the other tutors as well asmeeting the tuba section. Cory percussionist Steve Jones has told me so much about the course and what it aims to achieve — and it's something I want to help enhance as well."
Repertoire mix
David Thornton and Brett Baker have also been busy picking a widespread mix of course repertoire, with a focus this year on the music of Paul Lovatt-Cooper. In addition older repertoire will also be looked at in detail — giving delegates the chance to embrace different styles and eras.
Brett added: "The delegates really enjoyed David Hirst's 'Repertoire Evening' feature last year, so we will add to that with new works also, detailed workshops and intensive rehearsals. There will be plenty of time to relax as well — so the mix should be perfect for everyone to enjoy."
