One of the rising stars of Welsh banding made her mark with the judges at the event — with a little help for her dad.

The Galeri at Caernarfon's picturesque marina setting once again provided a scenic backdrop to the North Wales Brass Band Association's Annual Solo, Duet & Quartet event, where 112 competitors, ranging in age from 7 to over 60 took part.

Warm welcome

The Association was proud to welcome adjudicators Glyn and Helen Williams stars of Cory Band — both of whom had a very enjoyable day being impressed by some exceptional talent on show in all sections.

Chief amongst them was father and daughter combination Dylan and Ela Haf Williams (above) of Deiniolen Band. Dylan won the Open Air-Varie contest for the third year running, whilst Ela also won her under 14 Air-Varie category and came second in the 12-14 Slow Melody. However, the pair topped off the day by winning the 'Open Duet' open duet contest

Fine turn out

There was also a fine turn out of performers from bands from all over the region, with successes to report for Beaumaris, Llanrug and Dyffryn Nantlle, although it was Deiniolen that took away the Caernarfon Town Council Trophy for the band with the highest overall points gained on the day.

Some brilliantly named quartet and quintets also enjoyed themselves with Westlife from Dyffryn Nantlle winning the under 14 section.

The Iwan Williams Memorial Trophy for the most promising player under 12 years not in main prizes went to Elis Massarelli Hughes from Dyffryn Nantlle.

Ela also won her under 14 Air-Varie category and came second in the 12-14 Slow Melody. However, the pair topped off the day by winning the 'Open Duet' open duet contest4BR
