Verwood Concert Brass has had plenty to celebrate of late in seeing some of the money raised through collections at the many carolling events they performed in the run up to Christmas put to a very good use.
Band Chairperson Helen Dunnings, told 4BR: "Some of the money we collect through carolling is used to support the band, but we also share it with a chosen charity — and this year it was 'Katie's New Wheels' via 'The Tree of Hope' charity."
Making music
Katie is 10 years old and recently joined the band's 'Acorns' new starters group to learn to play the trumpet. As well as loving making music the band found out that she wanted to be able to get out and about more in the beautiful New Forest and Dorset coastal countryside with Vinnie, her assistance dog.
Fund purchase
As Katie has cerebral palsy that was a hard ask, so the 'Katie's New Wheels' charity was formed to help fund a purchase.
Helen added: "We were delighted that our donation, combined with that of The Sarah Kinsley Fund, meant Katie's wish came true and were thrilled when she turned up at band rehearsal (above) to show off her brand-new wheels."

Contest success
To top it all Verwood Youth Band recently competed at the Wessex Brass Band Association Youth & Training Band Festival and was awarded the cup for the Best Youth Band, with principal cornet Naomi Selby Grace, winning the 'Best Instrumentalist' prize.
Helen concluded: "It has been a privilege to see these young players enjoy learning and making music together."
