The Cory Band could gain yet another accolade in recognition of their excellence, following the announcement that they have been nominated to be bestowed the honour of 'The Freedom of the Borough' of the County Borough of Rhondda Cynon Taff.
Honour
The honour is given to groups or individuals for outstanding achievement, and the world's number 1 ranked band has been nominated following its unprecedented success in 2016 — which included victories at the European, National Final, British Open and Brass in Concert Championships.
A special 'Freedom of the Borough Working Group' recently convened and stated that they had, "...unanimously agreed to recommend to council at its meeting on the January 25th, 2017, that both the Cory Band and David Roberts CBE (Paralympic swimmer) be awarded the accolade of Freedom of the Borough.
Rhondda Cynon Taf has a proud record of recognising and honouring those who have given extraordinary service to the county borough and has a well established tradition of conferring the Freedom of the Borough on worthy candidates.
This accolade is highly prestigious and is intentionally relatively scarcely awarded to preserve its importance."
