Childs in New York for Cantata premiere

David Childs will perform at Carnegie Hall in New York this weekend in the American premiere of Sir Karl Jenkins' 'Cantata Memoria' oratorio.

Besson euphonium virtuoso David Childs is currently in New York where he is preparing to perform at the world famous Carnegie Hall as part of the American premiere of 'Cantata Memoria: For the Children' by Sir Karl Jenkins.

The performance of the critically acclaimed oratorio will take on Sunday 15th January.

Aberfan

The work was commissioned to mark 50 years since the Aberfan Disaster, where 144 people, including 116 pupils at Ysgol Pantglas Primary School were killed. It was given its world premiere in Cardiff in October 2016.

The work was commissioned by S4C, and created by Sir Karl Jenkins and poet Mererid Hopwood.

Shared and preserved

S4C Chief Executive, Ian Jones, told 4BR: "As Cantata Memoria is performed and played across the world, including this concert at Carnegie Hall, the history of Aberfan will be shared and preserved."
