In the midst of a usually busy festive period for the Bands of the Household Division, the composite Ensemble of Excellence, Guards Brass, pulled off a major coup in being asked to perform at 'Festivo' in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.
Lift our gaze
Billed as the Castle's Christmas Carol Service, the concert was best described in the programme notes as, '…like the wonderful St George's Chapel, the Christmas story often has the power to lift our gaze above the ordinary' — which is exactly what Guards Brass did on the evening.
Surrounded by eons of history and splendor, Guards Brass took to the stage in their resplendent scarlet and gold tunics alongside the chapel choristers and wowed an invited audience of Knights of the Garter, civil dignitaries, and television celebrities, including Alan Titchmarsh (above) who also presented a self-penned take on a modern manger scene.
Elgar to Torme
Guards Brass presented a similarly eclectic mix in their programme, with music ranging from classic Edward Elgar to classic crooner Mel Torme.
As part of their rehearsal schedule, Guards Brass broadcast a Facebook Live feed of 'Oh Holy Night' featuring lead Trumpet Player, Ben Beavis which can be found at;
