The Wigston Band has said a fond farewell to Musical Director Garry Sleath, who has retired from the role after 18 years to finally spend time with his family.
Many highlights
A spokesperson told 4BR: "Garry has decided it is time to put his baton away and spend more time exploring the world.
There have been so many highlights during the past 18 years, including two National Finals appearances in 2005 and 2013. He has been such a wonderful musician and conductor — always encouraging and developing playing talent.
The band will miss the effort and commitment put in by Garry as well as his insistence on striving for perfection."
Not just a brilliant MD
Wigston's Band Chairman added: "Garry has not just been a brilliant MD but also a very active committee member. Over the years the band has learnt so much from him, and his depth of knowledge and experience will not be easy to replace.
He also brought a lot of young players into the band, many of which have then gone on to study music at university or college."

Final appearance
Garry's final concert with Wigston was at Bedworth Civic Hall earlier in the month when he was officially presented with a 'Long Service Award' from Leicestershire Brass Band Association in recognition of over 50 years' worth of loyal and devoted service to the brass band movement.
