The Old Silkstone Band has just enjoyed their moment on the 'red carpet' spotlight with the world premiere of the film 'RESPECT!' which was recently screened at the prestigious 30th Leeds International Film Festival.
Written by Sam Morgan the film is based on first hand experiences of the 1980's Miners Strike and is part of a series entitled 'Mining the Memories'.
Very proud
Band Manager, Karen Bolt told 4BR: "We are very proud of our village's mining heritage and were delighted to be asked to collaborate with the talented composer and arranger Dave Collins on an original score for the film."
Karen also made a cameo appearance and appeared in a short scene at Royston Park Bandstand in Barnsley, during the summer.
Fantastic experience
She added: "This has been a fantastic experience for Old Silkstone. As a band we're always looking for new and exciting performance opportunities so when Dave asked us to record an original soundtrack for a new film we happily accepted!
It was fantastic hear the band on the big screen and the soundtrack played a really important part in telling the story; helping to portray the tension, emotion and mood throughout. We would like to thank Dave, the Northern Film School and Leeds Beckett University for this amazing opportunity."
