The European Brass Band Association has opened the application process for musicians who wish to compete in the 7th European Conductors Competition.
The event will form an integral part of the 40th European Brass Band Championships in Ostend in 2017, and will be hosted at the De Grote Post venue from 24th to 27th April.
Final repertoire
The competition will consist of two preliminary rounds, a semi-final and a final, where the finalists will conduct one of Belgium's leading brass bands on either 'Pageantry' by Herbert Howells, 'In Memoriam RK' by Elgar Howarth or 'Cloudcatcher Fells' by John McCabe.
Prizes of EUR 3,000, 2,000 and 1,000 are on offer, as well as special awards, with each semi-finalist also receiving a diploma.
Past winners
Past winners include Jose-Raphael Pascual, Christian Radner and 2013 champion Kalle Kuusava, whilst the competition has also attracted entrants who have since gone on to make highly successful careers in other musical spheres, such as former finalist Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla, who is now the Osborn Music Director of the world renowned City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Applicants must have been born on or after January 1st, 1982.
