New signing
George Newbould has become the new principal cornet at Thoresby Colliery Band

Thoresby Colliery Band has announced the appointment of George Newbould as their new Principal Cornet.

George has worked his way up through the ranks having joined on the back row in late 2013. After a brief spell at Foresters Brass, he returned to the front row cornet bench, impressing with his mature playing — and now take on the top man role.

Excellent cornet player

Band Chairman George Kennedy told 4BR: "George is a popular young man who has quickly become an excellent cornet player. We were delighted to offer him the role after he did a marvellous job at the recent Dr Martins contest for us and then as assistant principal at the National Finals.

George added: "He has shown he is ready to lead a top class band and we all hope he will enjoy his role for many years to come."
