Smithills Band enjoyed a great day linking up with the King's Division

Smithills School Senior Band under MD Chris Wormald recently hosted the professional musicians of the King's Division Band for what proved to be a superb day of music making, where a full morning of rehearsing was followed by a fantastic joint concert to an audience of 250 primary school pupils in the afternoon.

Perfect opportunity

With a number of the senior Smithills pupils considering future careers within the Corps of Army Music, the King's Division visit was the perfect opportunity learn from its musicians.

Great day

Chris Wormald told 4BR: "A great day was enjoyed by everyone, with the music played ranging from 'The Incredibles' to 'Mr Blue Sky' and '42nd Street'.

The players were thrilled to hear the King's Division Band's euphonium player Christian Dullea and find out that he combines his role with that of playing with Grimethorpe Colliery Band."

International flavour

There was also an international flavour to the day as long-time musical friends from the Forre Musikkorps Youth Band in Norway, also came to Smithills to have lunch with the King's Division and Smithills band members and watch the afternoon concert.
