There will be plenty of great opportunities for music making for everyone at Tongwynlais

The Tongwynlais Band has announced the launch of its new music academy.

The project, aimed at encouraging learners of all ages but especially young people will be based at, Musicroomz — its purpose-built facilities in Llandaff North on the outskirts of Cardiff.

Drawing on skills

Band Chairman Iestyn Davies told 4BR: "We are drawing on the skills of a range of experienced tutors under the direction of Christopher Bond and Sam Jowett of Create! Music Education.

Sam and Chris are enthusiastic tutors with experience of working with kids from across a wide age range and in numerous schools across south Wales. We're really excited about the opportunities this will bring for everyone involved with the band."

Specialist

The Music Academy will provide specialist instrumental tutors via one-to-one instruction or on a shared basis with borrowed, rented and assisted purchase instruments available according to need.

Christopher Bond added: "As well as instruction in the standard brass band instrumentation, the Academy will also provide tuition in piano, composition and music theory. Lessons in other instruments and in vocal performance will also be available by arrangement."

Purpose built

The band's purpose built facilities, Musicroomz, already houses rehearsal space and is home to a wide range of musicians based at the centre.

Iestyn concluded. "Musicroomz is a dedicated resource already in use as a rehearsal space and recording studio as well as an examination centre.

We are confident that it will provide an ideal hub for music tuition and provide a strong foundation to build on for the future.
