Childs Play
It will feature Black Dyke in a musical collaboration celebrating the history as well as modern day importance of 'Childs Play'.
It has been led by Bolsover District Council in partnership with local councils, arts bodies such as the Derby & Derbyshire Music Partnership (Derbyshire Music Education Hub) who they have worked with strategically on projects for the past five years, education providers, film makers, private home developers, composers and broadcasters.
Primary schools
The evening will see Black Dyke perform alongside Shirebrook Miners Welfare and Shirebrook Academy Wind Band Bands and a host of young performers from local primary schools.
The musical centerpiece will be the premiere of 'Childs Play' — the culmination of a 10 month long project made possible through funding by Arts Council England through 'Grants for Arts'.
Composer Paul Lovatt-Cooper has worked with pupils from the Shirebrook Academy on a brass band and choral soundtrack for a special 14 minute film, which will be performed by Black Dyke under the direction of Prof Nicholas Childs.
Narration
It will also feature narration by 'Listen to the Band' presenter Frank Renton as it explores a family friendly time-line history of many well known nursery rhymes and games from the Victorian era to the present time — all underlined by the importance they provide in a child's enjoyment of educational play.
Musical legacy
The live internet broadcast will bring together the musical strands alongside a host of primary school choirs to join Frank Renton for a performance that will provide the local community with a musical celebration of the innovative partnership — and its lasting legacy.

Family programme
Black Dyke will also feature music for all the family — from films such as 'Star Wars' and 'Mission Impossible' to their special 'Black Dyke Spooktacular', 'Sister Act', 'West Side Story', 'Gone with the Wind' and '633 Squadron' — and a reprise of the moving 'The Last Voyage', which the band premiered earlier this year to critical acclaim.
A great taster trailer has already been produced to showcase the Childs Play project, its music and family friendly approach.
