Loxley Silver Band has announced that they are to receive funding from the PRS for Music Foundation Open Fund to allow them to both perform and record works by composer Barry Gilbey.

Four works

The band will link up with the internationally acclaimed composer for four unique compositions which they hope will create music which crosses genres from brass band into popular music in a new and contemporary manner.

It will be the first time that Barry Gilbey has written specifically for brass band and the commissions will be performed live at a world premiere in Sheffield before being recorded.

Ecstatic

Band Secretary Stuart Young told 4BR: "We are absolutely ecstatic that we've been offered this award from the PRS for Music Foundation amongst so many other very prestigious names.

It will allow us to push forward in our goal to expand the scope of the modern brass band and reach new audiences."
